After Vienna and London, the acclaimed all-evening opera Biedermann and the Arsonists (2005-2007) by a Czech-Austrian composer Šimon Voseček received its German premiere, too. It was produced in Stadttheater Bremerhaven in northern Germany by director Christian van Götz and conductor Thomas Kalb.
Based on Max Frisch’s absurd drama of the same name (1958), the opera tells how the main character, Mr Biedermann, invited two peculiar strangers to his flat despite the ubiquitous fires. These two are playing with petrol cans and matches in his attic… The title role is sung by a renowned tenor and a member of the ensemble of Deutsche Oper Berlin Clemens Biber. The other cast includes Katja Bördner, Alice Fuder, Leo Yeun-Ku Chu, Vikrant Subramanian, Thomas Burger, Stefan Hahn and Jovan Koščica. Met with enthusiastic response, the premiere will be followed by five more performances during this season.
